Timeline

I would have liked to be able to do a timeline for the whole three weeks in one map, but Google doesn't seem to offer that facility! (If anyone knows how to do it, please leave a comment with a pointer to instructions)

Here are the Google Timelines for each train travelling day:

Steam Train outing, not sure the route is quite right!

This was a bus ride to the ferry terminal

Just two delays of more than a few minutes, the first on day 1 between Lund and Malmö that cost us a few hours and extra trains the long way round Denmark. The second was a train that didn't start from Bratislava, as it turned out, no big deal, we were able to rebook the next bit without any problem.

Back in Sweden

Our last Saturday was spent in a rather cold and sometimes rainy Lübeck. We visited the Marzipan Museum (yes there is one!) and a church before taking a bus to Travemunde ferry terminal for the ferry to Malmö, where we are now sitting waiting for our last train journey back to Västerås.

You seem to be able to make anything in Marzipan

3D printing in it!!

They had some fantastic models on show

A rather splendid organ with decorated pipes, and a strange wheat-sheaf thing hanging in this church!
We were the only foot passengers on the ferry, and felt very slim at breakfast amongst all the lorry drivers! One very large man had more on his plate that I would manage all day! There were some 'normal' shaped people as well, although we suspect they're either new to the job or not real truckers.

Tourists in Leipzig

(Margaret's post)

The day began with a tour of the STASI museum didn't take an pictures though, too busy listening to the tour. Rather depressing. The picture was taken in the Bach museum, much more uplifting.

Bach played on some of this organ, the rest is restoration!!

This is the main square in Leipzig where football culture has taken over. Apparently Celtic and Leipzig are playing tonight.

St. Thomas church where Bach was the music master for over 20 years. Famous for its boys choir.

Leipzig - Stasi & Bach museums, and Celtic/Leipzig football

We didn't take any pictures in the Stasi museum (very interesting although we needed the English audio guide since nothing was otherwise in English). Sad to think how tough they had it here up to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the DDR.

The Bach Museum did have everything in both German and English however.

Part original part reconstruction of Bach's organ.

Couldn't resist a picture of a double bass!

We sat for quite a while listening to all sorts of Bach music

Celtic are playing Leipzig this evening, and supporters were out in force...

... and made quite a mess in this fine square.

The mess in the square is obviously pretty unusual judging by the number of people (including us) taking pictures of it! Most of this afternoon a police helicopter was flying above us, and lots of police were in evidence all around.

Konstanz to Leipzig trains trains and more trains !

Wonderful views through the black forest.

Autumn has arrived and it feels like it. At least 10 degrees colder then what we have had earlier.

Travelling from Siena to Konstanz

Piazza del Campo what a beautiful square. Here it costs 96kr for 2 cappuccinos that does include the 20% service charge.

Lots of lovely scenery on today's train journey.

Travelling day Siena to Konstanz

Yesterday we rode on four trains from Sienna through Switzerland to Konstanz (just) in Germany. Much of the scenery was stunning.

Italy's Frecciarossa trains are very nice. Comfortable and very fast (up to 300kph)!
Switzerland is just breathtaking in parts. This was one of the things we came on this ride for....

and to listen to our books!

Day trip to olive oil festival

(Here are some of Margaret's pictures)

Siena

Today we walked from our hotel to and around the historic town of Siena. I didn't take many photos, but here are some:

'I don't care how many floors Garmin say I'm not climbing up that'

Our last week on the train

The view from our hotel room, a nice start to anyone's day!
