Bratislava, Slovakia

This is a city (and indeed country) that we have never visited before, so we didn't have much idea of what to expect. It turns out to be a very nice place if a little run down in parts.

The Castle

The Old Town is very well preserved however.

We were a little apprehensive when we got off the train at a very busy main station, and had to find our way the ~800m to our hotel. Many of the pavements are in a terrible state, and there are plenty of road works going on.

When we got to the hotel we were welcomed by a very friendly young lady who'd come especially to let us in, since the restaurant here is closed over the weekend. She showed us to our rather unusual room, which is on two floors! A few minutes later she knocked on the door with instructions about the nearest restaurant, and how to use the tram etc. etc.! The restaurant she recommended was a short walk away, and was very good.

This morning after a large breakfast, we took the tram into the old town, and then the tourist bus which went up to the castle. Being Monday the castle is closed, but the were plenty of cafés and restaurants open.

We then walked back up to our hotel, where I'm sitting writing this now.
